Located on Rockaway Road in Oldwick, Whittemore is dedicated to environmental education. The Sanctuary was bequeathed to the Township by Mrs. Helen A. Whittemore and is governed by a Board of Trustees.

The Friends of Whittemore is a group of dedicated individuals who are "investing in Community, wws_2012Culture and Conservation at Whittemore."

Plans are to have Sanctuary programs that will include summer nature day camps, winter and spring break camps, maple sugaring, children's garden quilt, birthday parties and scouting programs. More information is available at www.WhittemoreCCC.org.

The Township of Tewkwsbury maintains the wildlife sanctuary. There are approximately 180 acres of walking and hiking trails. The trails traverse mainly wooded areas with wetlands, ravines and hilly terrain. The Rockaway River flows along the southern border of the property. A.M. Best is also located on the southern border, Hunterdon County Route 517/523 to the east and the Stavola Quarry to the northwest.
